PCI Jury Training Academy Boot Camp - 2024

Philatelic Congress of India organized a two days Jury Training Academy Program in Pune from 10th – 11th August 2024. The objective of the program was to impart exhibit judging knowledge to all the participants and clear the doubts. Total 21 participants successfully completed the training. Primarily Jurors, Apprentice jurors and few philatelists attended the training program.

The program was divided into two days. On the first day total four sessions were planned.


Five exhibits from different classes were given for judging to all the participants. The scores and comments of all the participants were sent to the respective subject speakers for evaluation.


In the first session Mr. Rajesh Kumar Bagri, delivered an insightful presentation on Thematic Philately. Mr. Madhukar Deogawanka took an open session about clearing the doubts of judging and misconceptions.

The second session started with a presentation by renowned philatelist Mr. Lars Englebrecht, RDP from Denmark about, The role of the juror. Preparation of judging and how to give feedback to the exhibitors. It was a fabulous presentation and full of tips for preparing as a juror.

The third session was conducted by Mr. Mike David from Uk, on Postal Stationery Exhibiting. Mike is an authority on the subject and helped the participants understanding minute details about judging the exhibits.

The fourth session started with presentation by Mr. Peter Suhadolc from Slovenia. Expert and former Chairman of the FIP Thematic Commission, current FIP Board Director for Europe and Co-responsible for the FIP Jury Academy. It was insightful and impressive presentation.

The second day started with an online exam of the participants. The first session of presentation conducted by Henrik Mourtisen RDP, FRPSL form Germany. He spoke about How to reach consistency in judging exhibits fairly and accurately: Postal History. Also, he did the second session explaining about Traditional Philately. Both the sessions were interactive, full of energy and information.

All the sessions were interactive, and the participants showed their keen interest in understating the subject.

In the concluding session Certificates were awarded to all the successful participants. Mr. Ramachandra Kisan Jayabhaye, Post Master General Pune Region was the Chief Guest. He handed over the Best Participant Award to Mr. Pragya Jain from Patna.

It was a very well organised program and all the participants were very satisfied about the content and the overall arrangements. Everyone expressed that PCI should organise such a brain storming event at least once a year.
